This is my first post to an NSN forum.

I captured this several weeks ago at Jamaica Bay while attending an Arthur Morris ITF(Great experience). I concur with the previous post about the weekend being who's who in the photography world, amazing. I learned more than I could have ever imagined.

Leica R8, 800/5.6, 1.4x, Provia 100@320, 1/300, F8, +1/2 Comp, in 3 inches of slime on a groundpod.

Thanks for looking

Gorgeous shot Mark. The low perspective and soft light and perfect. No nits here and welcome to naturescapes.

Background, posture, exposure, sharpness all look spot on to me. needs more room on bottom for virtual legs though IMO.

Wonderful light and colors in this image. Usually I would agree with the suggestion to include enough room for the unseen feet but in this case I think the composition works just fine. On this monitor I can't tell if there is a catchlight in the eye or not. If not, that's about the only thing that might make this fine image even better.

Love the shot; catchlight would be a bonus but it's fine without. Gotta ask for the Leica, is 800mm really 800mm in 35mm terms?

Good way to start out. Very nice image. The lack of virtual feet doesn't bother me at all.

Hi all, thanks for the replies and the encouragement.

There is catchlight toward the top of the eye, but it got lost when I shrunk the file down for the web display. My Photoshop skills are rudimentary at best.

Rich, the 800mm is part of the 35mm lineup. It is part of their Modular APO system, it can be a manual focus 400/2.8, 560/4, or 800/5.6, depending on which "tail" is attached to the "head".

Thanks again

Mark

Wonderful, Mark. All parameters are on the money. I can see a catchlight on my monitor.

Beautiful shot for sure. This one could take a little more USM. I'm looking forward to more.

Hi Mark,
Wlcome. This is a good start. Either I am blind or nobody has volunteered an ID on this guy. Looks like a Lesser Yellowlegs to me.

A very nice start for your first post. You've done very well.....I absolutely love the shorebirds. I can just barely detect the catchlight.

Nice first post! The Yellowlegs will always be special to me, as it was among the first birds I ever really started photographing.

Great, low perspective, and I like the look that it's on the prowl for food. :)

That's quite a lens you have there. And with you using it, you made one very fine image. Nice work. :D
