Every once in a while when I plan on getting up early to chase birds I think about sleeping in. I'm sure glad I didn't this morning. I found this guy about 20 minutes after sunrise. The light was spectacular. I hope it shows in this shot.

Taken at Mustang Island State Park, near Corpus Christi, TX, on the bay side.

1D with 600 and 1.4X TC, AV - 1/3 (ISO 400, f11, 1/500), flash with BB at - 1 2/3.

Thanks for looking. All comments welcome.

It sure does! Light is great, the head tilted downwards, the lifted leg, the hues in the water...great shot, Bruce. I consider this definitely worth listening to the alarm go off in the morning. :)

Very nice Bruce. The Willets are already starting to attain their winter plummage. I like how the subject is isolated out in the water.

Hey Bruce,

Finally a little cooler weather down here in Texas. This is a great shot. Love the raised leg. With such good light I'm surprised you used flash. You did a great job with it though.

This kind of shot in this kind of light makes it easier to get out of bed the next time.

A very nice shot, Bruce!
I'm glad you overcome yourself to rise earlier. It's all worth it ... and the beautiful light you got here.

The light is gorgeous. You made a very drab bird (Willets have such boring basic plumage) into a very beautiful shot with the lighting and your composition. I really like it.

Another nice one, Bruce.

I'm jealous because I'm up here in the nice weather and have nothing to show for an hour in a blind yesterday. :D

I always have trouble deciding how much reflection to include in situations like this. You did a nice job. A very nice job.

Bruce,

Very nice capture. The DOF seems perfect for this shot and the leg starting to come out of the water with water rolling off it really enhances the image.

Thanks,

Sweet one, Bruce. Excellent choice of aperture. I've come to understand, like you, that a kiss of fill does not interfere significantly with sunrise or sunset shots.

Bruce,

You sure showed us why we get up at those ridiculous hours and your shot is worth it.

Bruce

A very eloquent image. I've got to learn to keep my flash attached to the camera......flash and I still have not come to terms with each other. However, you have done a marvelous job with this one. It's not so hard getting up early on a Saturday when there's good light....it's a little harder when it's dismal out. A wonderful shot!!!!
