This Willet was coming in for a landing on this piling and then taking off again. I waited for his return and took this shot.

Canon 1D, 500, 1.4x, Manual exposure incident meter, PS, crop a little from the top and side, USM.

All comments welcome.

Hey Bob the technicals are perfect and the willet looks great, I just wish for a better perch.

I couldn't stop noticing you're camera model (!D), it must be the new 18Mgpixel that we all were looking for

No issue with the perch from me, this is an outstanding shot. The background is especially nice and I don't know if I've ever seen a Willet off the ground other than in flight.

Bob,

Very nice shot. I love that green background. It is nice to see the black and white wing feathers here.

Hi, Bob!

Way to watch the behavior, it sure pays off! Not a fan of manmade perches myself but when you get a bird that rarely perches it's a treat to see regardless, and what a great catch. The open bill is so cool!

Very nice pose and bg. Not an easy shot for sure. Patience got you the shot, but not always.

Awesome BG.
Awesome pose.
A more natural perch would make for a killer image IMO.
Still a very fine shot.

That's quite a dynamic pose! Would back out some of the green cast. Am undecided about the missing feet. I think the action probably holds my interest strongly enough to never miss the feet. :)

Ditto to everything that has already been said! I also seem to be seeing the green cast mentioned by Juli but it is pretty faint.
