Roseatte Spoonbill Estero Lagoon, Fort Myers, FL

I shot this spoonbill several months ago down at Estero Lagoon on a great morning. There's nothing like coming upon a group of beautiful birds in early morning light... I liked the way this one's feather's were splayed out. I hope that you like it as well!

Excellent color and sharpness here, Matthew!
Looks like all the feathers are coming off ... the two that stick out are rather unusual!

Nice colors and pose! Moving to the left a bit would have hidden the dark rock behind the bird and I wonder if moving the bird left in the frame just a tad would have balanced the shot a little better. Nice as is though!

Got to rate this a two feathers up. :) :)

I'm very jealous! There have been no spoonbills at Estero when I've been there. Good detail in the head and wonderful color. (I didn't notice the rock until reading Greg's comment.)

Sweet shot, Matthew. Perhaps a touch oversaturated, perhaps not.

I am jealous too. When we were at Estero the Spoonbills wouldn't let us get close enough for a shot like this. I love the splayed feathers.

Way cool. 8)

Matthew,
Wonderful colors on this one. I think NBC should dump the peacock and use this guy.

I like this very much and the shot has very good detail. You have already gotten some suggestion for making this very good photo even better.

Good catch on the action, Matthew, and I like the framing. Seems a bit contrasty or harsh in color tones for my taste but that might be my monitor, of course!

I don't think i've ever seen a spoonbil that has reds this bright. Maybe a bit over-saturated? Or was he really showing off this much? :)

Other than what has already been said, this is a really nice image, and better than anything I have of a spoonbill

Matthew,

Nice work. The colors look great. The splayed feathers add interest to the image.

Interesting and well lit bird in this one. Whites do look a little bright but not cooked. Wish we had these guys on the west coast.

I really like the colors in this one. The position in the frame as well as the dark area in the background I'm not so sure about.
