Parakeet Auklet - St. Paul Island, Alaska, USA
EOS 10D, 500mm, 2x, 1/125, f/11, Fill Flash, ISO 400

This image was taken at 10:57PM on a mid July day in Alaska's Pribilof Islands. I find the cliff dwelling birds like Auklets, Murres and Puffins amazing creatures and could not stop photographing them. Here is one shot of about 100 I took of this guy on this cliff. The composition of putting the bird in the upper left is intentional to give the feeling of him looking down over the cliff.

Fine technical work as always. I think this might work well as a vertical to with a piece cropped off the bottom.

I like how you composed it, it does give the feeling you intended. One of the things I found hard to contend with is that the birds often face into the cliff. I like that this one is looking out over the water.

EJ,

Having never seen one of these birds before I find the details fascinating. But you know the lichen is so interesting as well that it almost competes for your attention. Great image and he absolutely looks like he is peering over the edge.

Well done EJ, I also like that he is looking out over the water and not back on the cliff.

The pose and the lichen are nice complements. Auklet on a bit of a slope makes me hope it's not slippery.

I tell you EJ. The birds, backgrounds, and rocks with the colorful lichens, make for some beautiful photography. I'll have to put this on my list of places to visit.

I like the composition on this; also think the shooting opportunities in the Pribs are astounding. Nifty shot of a nifty (plentiful) bird.
