Took this shot of a Chinese Pond Heron, Ardeola bacchus, yesterday at a nature reserve here in Hong Kong. This guy is in an 'ready for' mode ... The green BG is the weed in the pond.

I like this, the alertness of the bird and how it is emerging from the weeds. I think the image would be stronger without the weeds in the immediate foreground, but that's just me. :)

KK,
Cool picture... looks similar to our Green Heron. I like the weed BG. The light looks a bit high, but your did well.

Given the harshness of the light - shot around mid-day based on the shadow - this is exceptional! Nice choice to go just a bit high-key and get the detail in the bird. Weeds don't bother me either since if it has similar behaviour to our green, that's where you would find it. Would like just a tad of room on the left for the tail.

Very nice in tough light, KK. A lower angle and more room on the left would be nice.

Excellent catch on the ready pose; would like to see more detail in the bird as the overall lighter areas are tending to overpower the fine lines.

The harsh light does bother me and the OOF vegetation is a little hard to ignore. Interesting behavior of an interesting bird though.

Good job considering the angle of the light. I agree with Heather about the foreground elements.
