In a break from the Florida images, I decided to post an image from last weekend at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge just west of Zimmerman, MN about 30 minutes from my home. This guy was foraging for bugs right next to the road less than 6 feet from my car. Several times he came out and was in a pretty good position for photographs. This is one of about 6 or 8 that were real keepers.

Canon Eos10D + 400mm f/5.6 @ f/6.3. 1/800th sec -2/3 EV.

Enjoy,
Chris Fagyal

Chris,

Fantastic light, background and perch. Wish he was not in molt. Great photo.

Whoa!! (That's better than WOW). This is a sweet image. Beautiful light and pose and I like the repetitive foliage that's in focus in the foreground and OOF in the BG. If I were painting this I couldn't improve on this composition.

Not an easy bird to capture due to their hyperactivity. this was taken in very nice light. In a perfect world, I would wish for the vegetation behind his tail not to merge with the bird or be gone altogether.

Cool shot! The light almost gives it a 3D wuality. At first I didn't like the thing in the background, but I think it adds dimension to the image.
Nice one!

Love the light and the composition. Rarely do I disagree with E.J. but I like the OOF background flower. It gives the shot a bit of depth. (Might prefer that it didn't merge with the tail, but would rather it in than out.)

I find it interesting how well it works for the bird to be on the other side of the perch in this shot. Great light, too!

The only thing that could make this better is not having the OOF elements on the left. Even with them, this is wonderful.
