This is full frame EF3002.8L @2.8 1/1000 ISO 100. Got really close to them today. This is minimum focusing distance of the 300f2.8

Fine shot, Dan. It could be even tighter, especially on the right side. Why did you choose such a shallow DOF with f2.8? f8@1/250 and ISO 200 would have worked on a bird that usually does not make rapid movements.

Dan,

I agree with Sandy; f11 or so would have given you focus all the way down the bill, and it looks as though you had ample light to do so. Unless of course that's not what you wanted; perhaps you wanted to isolate the eye more, in which case you could have used a converter and stayed wide open for even less DOF, as well as shift position so as to increase the angle/distance to force the eye to be the only thing in focus. But I'm rather assuming that wasn't your goal.

It's still a very nice photo, don't get me wrong!
