From Homer, AK in mid January, 2004, in a snow storm.

I know centered subjects usually get hammered, but it seems to work OK for this image IMO. Not sure if I got the colors right though, Provia under clouds always results in the heavy blue tint.

EOS 3, Provia 100F at 200, most likey a 300/2.8.

I would have framed this the same way. The bird's tail is much closer to the left edge than the head is to the right edge even if the post is centered.

The bird does look cold. (blue) Still it's a nice effect since it is snowing. :D

Tim, great shot, comp looks good. As you say a little on the blue side.

I love the shot, but it does have a slight blue cast. As Tony mentions the bird is far from centered! There is more than 4x the space in front of the bird than there is behind it. I like the comp as is but may have placed the bird just slightly higher in the frame. The snow is rendered very nicely!

Tim, I love inclement weather, it brings a completely new dimension to photography and subjects alike. This is a wonderful image as presented, but I would favor a bit less blue, and less than square crop.

Best,

Chas

This is a wonderful image.
I too would prefer just a little less blue.

Nice shot Tim.

I like the blue cast, it gives a feeling of the elements that the bird is enduring. Keep it the way it is.

Hi Tim, I love this as is. It is a wonderful image. Do note that the bird is NOT centered; there is lots more room from the bill to the frame edge than from the tail to the frame edge. HIghest compliment: it looks like a painting! Best, Artie

Stunning shot Tim!!! I love it just as it is.

Superb in every way and the blue suits the mood and subject in those conditions.

Tim,

I love the feel of this image. The bird is unsettled on the post in the harsh elements - the raised wings are great. The blurred snow adds a lot, too. Comp is great, I wouldn't change a thing.

It is a bit blue, but Carol has a point - blue sort of suits the mood. I think it presents a cold feel. Maybe it's a touch too blue, you can try correcting the white on the bird to different balances to see what works best for you.

I really like how nothing in the background is visible, either because nothing is there or because it's snowing so hard. Great job with this photo.
