This is my first image posted shot from my new(used) Canon 10D. I have had quite a learning curve from my old Oly P&S and manual Minolta x700. The weekend weather here has been lousy lately too.

Finally had a decent day and I was out at my local nature trail at lunchtime and came across some geese. They were doing thier best to stay away from a nice background. Then I noticed this little fella sitting not 10 feet away. As soon as I pointed the lens at him he flew into the bushes 20 feet away and sat still for about 5 shots. Its not a perfect image but I am please with the end result.

PS Thanks to all here who have sold me my new and used gear. Got some good buys and am really enjoying my new toys.

The comp here is nice and the branches all going the same direction the bird is facing is a nice effect. The one branch in font of the bird is not ideal but unavoidable. I love the background. Glad you're having fun with your new toys!

Basically what I was going to say, too! Normally a busy shot doesn't work so well, but since all the branches are going in a similar direction it really seems to work okay here. It's just that one branch in front of the bird I wish wasn't there. The tones in the background are pretty neat.

Glad you're having fun with the 10D! I got to shoot with one during my time in Homer and liked it a lot.

Nice shot Eric. The post is on the small size, might be easier to see if you went to the 650 pixel limit.

Great shot Eric little birds are difficult to photograph and you did a great job. Like the composition and the complementing tones. Nice and sharp.
