While out exploring new areas I stumbled upon this guy at a local canal amazingly he let us get out of the car and shoot from a tripod.

Beautiful photo Jimmy. Love the over the shoulder pose and the brown tones. Love that stump.

Great light on that bird. I, too, like the vertical reeds in the background.

Have you found another 1D or are you just using the 10D for now?

Jimmy,
I am confused, he let you shoot with a tripod, but you posted this was handheld???
Regardless, great perch, pose. Since I am recovering from some eye surgery, I am not sure if it is really sharp, or could use a bit more USM.
Floating things in my vision make critical judgements a bit of a problem. I hope they settle down. There is a cloud at my focusing area in my right eye.

Maybe jimmy meant initially, when he met the guy, he was tripod mounted and then switched to handheld.

Nice capture, elusive they are, most females don't hang through the cold weather. Where I am, only males are left through the winter.

If by "guy" you meant the Kingfisher...well..it's a gal.

Steve this was taken when I first found the bird so I stayed in my car when my friend Stu showed up a guy from across the street came over to talk to him. Thats when we realized the bird would not fly if we got out of the car.

Amazing shot here Jimmy.

Just to clarify....these are some very skittish birds. Jimmy was at the site well before me, shooting from his car. After I got there, the owner of the land came over to my car to chat, and as it turned out, the kingfisher didnt move. Since the owner and I sorta knew some of the same people, we felt that 1) we could stand on his land now with our tripods, and 2) the bird likes us.

Thanks Jimmy for getting me out to see this little guy. I DO appreciate it so much.

Very nice, Jimmy. Now that you found a cooperative KF, I bet you'll be back there again!

Love the colours and the BG. The bird is excellent, usually very difficult to get close enough fo a decent photo.
