Canon 1D 70-200 2.8 IS L Lens ISO 200 f 2.8 at 1/1250 Fill Flash -1 Hand Held. 0 Crop.

Continuing with the raptor show at the Arizona Desert Museum, Sue brought this magnificent Ferruginous Hawk, it flew very low, scanning the ground for food. Very powerful and fast. I sat in the ground and framed an environmental portrait. The 70-200 performed flawlessly acquiring a fast focus and sharp even at wide open.

Hope you enjoy. All Comments Appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful catch -- I love the wing position and BG. Only distraction is the perfectly straight cactus cutting the mountain in half.

Cool capture! 8) I too find the cactus a little distracting, but it is part of the environment here. I think it needs a slight CW rotation.

Very nice, Juan. You caught it at just the right moment.

Techs are right on, as usual.

Juan,

I've decided that I hate you, this image along with the Barn owl one are just amazing.

The only issue I have is the right side of the image, it looks like it was just cloned over and over again. Is that an optical illusion or did you do some cloning?

Juan:

Good eye. The hawk originally was too much to the right, so I cloned a piece of the right side border to stretch the canvas a little.

Killer JB. Really like the use of flash to pop the bird out of the environment, which is also really nice for a bg...

Amazing flight shot, which can be improved by cropping a bit of the sky and hiding the cloning on the right hand side of the picture.

Great colors!

I really like this. It's tough to do this kind of shot. First of all, you have an interesting, and appropriate background that doesn't detract from the bird. Second, you have achieved excellent focus.Third, the color and crispness of the hawk pop it right out of that background. And I actually like that cactus, but you do need to straighten it up.

8) Pretty Sweet.

The shot almost doesn't look real the way the bird is lit. It looks like you used flash, although the bird is lit well and overall is an outstanding image. I can't nit because I would be happy to get the same shot. Good going.

Killer hawk!!

Image:
The environment in this host is wonderful, it screams South West, excellent bird if a tad over flashed for my taste (not a nit), so concentrated I was on the hawk that I missed the cloning on the right, I must admit!! Congrats!! 8)
I just came back from Shark Valley and my nesting hawks, I just about gave up shooting at 1/500Sec SS and fill-flash with the SB-800, the fills are perfect but even with the VR function On and handheld the image are turning up pretty soft due to motion blur!!, I will get back to my high speed mode [FP] which I can only use with the SB-80 , The SB-800 has a high speed flash mode but only available via the new D2H camera!!, It can not be manually turn on like on the SB-80!!

Juan, this is great! Like a landscape and a bird shot all in one. Even though I suspect this is level I might be tempted to rotate it cw ever so slightly.
