I am new at photographing birds and I came across this one in a tree on the bluffs above a beach near Sooke on Vancouver Island.

What kind of woodpecker is it?

Bryan, welcome to NSN! This is a Red-breasted Sapsucker. Nice image though the angle is a bit steep and the background just a tad busy. We shoot em where we find em though. :)

Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Welcome to NSN Bryan. I'm new to bird photography as well. You'll find that the people here are highly skilled and eager to help others. They've already helped me improve my shots.

Keep on shootin' :)
