Most noted for being a left coast bird, this Hermans Gull was shot at Ft. Desoto East Beach in St Pete, FL

I shot this just after the STL Manatee workshop, fueled by the knowledge gained in general photography and ready to test the new camera, I was jazzed to see this guy.

D2H, 70-200 2.8 VR, ISO 200, Sunny 16 - 2/3 , Hand Held.

Best,
Stu

Beautiful shot Stuart. Wish for a lower angle. The black border works well here although it puts it over the 650 pixel limit.

Excellent shot, Stu. Moving the bird slightly to the left in the frame and shooting from a lower angle would have put it over the top.

How do you know it belongs to Herman ??

Lovely bird and pretty good pose, I agree with Sandy for the bird to be a little more towards the left of the frame, lovely sandy BG,
Nice exposure and detail!! Congrats!! 8)

Stu,

Well done but even in the warm areas you have to get lower to the ground

I'm going to be contrary and tell you I love the viewing angle and everything about this photo. It is slightly comical in that the bird seems to be standing up to you. I think the BG colors set off the colors in the head and make for a pleasing combination.

Nice one of "Hermie", Stu!

It was very nice of the fellow photographer/birder lady to tell us about him...and let us follow her to the beach where he was waiting for his lunch!
