(Bald Eagle) Homer, Alaska

The original had a slightly clipped right wing. I decided to crop this close and see what people thought.

Handheld Nikon D1H, 500mm F4.0 AFS, ISO 320, Shutter Priority, 1/400 @ F5.3. Cropped to maybe 50% original width. :?:

Another great Eagle shot Tony. I like the lighting and the composition with the clipped wingtips.

Tony,

Another great eagle shot. I like where you cropped the wings. It looks intentional rather than by accident. The exposure looks great and so does the light.

I rarely see a wing-cropped image I like, but this one rocks. Well seen!

Tony,

Not only is it a great shot, but handheld with your 500mm f4! Nice job. I like the crop. You have the eagle balanced in the frame, at least to my eye.

Love the golden light Tony. This is another one of your fabulous shots. You seem to always nail the eagles. I've yet to see one you've posted anywhere that I haven't really enjoyed.

Works for me! A more distant shot with all of the wings included would be very nice but wouldn't have the impact this one has. Of course, given the chance, I'd take both as I know you already have!

I could care less about the wings:)

The look on the eye is great--but I really like the fanned out tail!

Works well by me! Love the light and the composition. My only disappointment? I didn't get to see you handhold a 500 in FL. :)

   Actually, I didn't really handhold it for this one, I copied the bottom section and forgot to update that part of the information. ie: If it was taken in Alaska with the 500, it was on a tripod. If it was taken with the 300, it was handheld.

However, I did handhold the lens while taking images of those Frigate Birds on the last day of the workshop in Florida. You probably missed it because Greg was right next to me handholding his 600 at the time.

Tony,
Beautiful light on a beautiful bird. He (she?) sure looks upset. I like the crop.
