All the bear photos inspired me to post one. This is from a trip to Lake Clark NP in AK last summer. I wish the bear's back didn't merge with the upper edge of the shot, but I like the position in the frame other than that. I also like the clarity of the eyes, something often missing in images of bears.

D30, Canon 500/4.5 non-IS, ISO 800 (not sure why), evaluative metering, f/5.6 as 1/1250.

Lillian, this is wonderful. I especially like the eyes for the reasons you stated.

A winner in my book!

Best,

Lillian,
This is a great image. I really like the pose and, as you mentioned, the eyes. Great job.

Excellent capture Lillian.
I'd like to see just a little more space above. Easy to add digitally since there is nice clear background. The eyes and the stance are wonderful. Ideal light.

Your self assessment is right on target, the low perspective, detail in the eyes and appropriate overcast light quickly subtract from the slight back frame edge merge on the top.. Very nice bear image...

The eyes have it for sure. Great perspective and other than the crop on top, no other nits from me. I would love to have it in my files.

Very, very nice. Too bad it's so tight at the top, but even so it's excellent.

Lil,
tell the truth, this is a stuffed bear. If it were real, there would be a swarm of mosquitos around it, though I think I see one under its eye.. Actually, I like this a lot. I haven't seen it before. The eye's have it and the leg position adds a lot.

This shot is just one mm of camera angle away from being one of the best Brown Bear shots I've seen yet - that edge merge on top. But even with that, this is awesome!!!
