This is from my 2001 Churchill trip. We were really lucky to have a fair amount of sun, and it is sweet light all day long up that far north. This was the "parking lot bear", he was hanging around the Tundra Buggy parking lot when we got there, so we stayed in the parking lot in the buggy for a couple of hours before he wandered off.
I tried cropping this to a vertical to be in tighter on the bear and in the end decided I liked this version better, there just wasn't enough "room for the bear to move". Of course it could just be I'm used to seeing this full frame...

Great shot Cindy, gotta love that light :) The bear's pretty cool too especially with that oh so big tongue :D

I just love Polar's and can't wait for an opportunity to get up there and shoot them.

FWIW I could go with either crop.

Great shot Cindy, lovely detail in the fur and gorgeous light. It works for me as is, or with a tighter crop.

Cindy,
I like that you kept this full frame. The background habitat really adds to this image. Thanks for sharing.

Another vote for full frame. Love the light. But the first thing I did on opening this one was yawn! (Wonder why? ;) )

Nice shot Cindy and no nits here. Exposure is right on and I think the sleepy yawn and squinty eyes adds a lot to the overall feel of the photo. Good work and thanks for posting.

Cindy,
I associate polar bears with snow and cold :D

So, the foreground worries me a bit due to this association only. No nit for the rest.

Hi Cindy,

I like this shot a lot! Great capture on the subject and environment. I'd love to make it up to Churchill one of these days.

There was very little snow and what was there was pretty dirty. So that Polar Bear in the snow drift image eluded us this trip. Next time

Cindy,

The open mouth, ice in the BG really make it look like home. Good exposure and position.

I really like this shot a lot! The detail in the fur on the bear is really crisp. I also like the composition. I think cropping it too tightly would feel cramped as you said. This looks natural, and the bear looks like he is taunting you!
