Whitetail Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
Shenandoah National Park

10D, 100-300 f4.5-5.6, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/125, tripod
slight crop, cloned an OOF branch, levels, USM

This guy was trying to impress a doe by running away as fast as he could, and then would charge back when another buck moved in on the doe. Unfortunately, all he managed to do was tire himself out.

This is definitely not the best shot, but it was the only one where all four feet were off the ground. I’m think more blur in the background (slower shutter speed) would have made this a better shot. I also think the AF sensor was picking up the backend of the deer and not the eye. But, I’m interested to hear any other comments. Thanks for looking.

Certainly a nice catch of the action. Looks a bit in-between shutter speeds to me. It would look better a bit sharper with a faster SS or a little more blurred with a slower SS. Still a nice image though.

This is a nice shot. I like the angle to the ground as well as the angle to the camera. As you say, slower shutter speed and accurate panning would give this a more dynamic look. Still very nice as is.

Nice action here. I like that he is completely airborn.

First rate motif contribution Chris.. Fully in the air!. What do you think about a tighter comp, or some other action to eliminate the diagonal out of focus objects lower left? Otherwise, can't think of a single suggestion.. Excellent work as usual and thanks for your consistent posting here..
