Dan Neri and I went to CRSP this morning in the hope of finding some bucks in the snow. Although this one was not sporting the best rack in town, it proved most cooperative, allowing us to get close enough for some frame filling close-up portraits. After chewing its cud for a while, we watched it slowly close its eyes, eventually resting its head on the snow going to sleep with us only a few feet away. Gotta love it! We backed away, letting him dream of reindeer pulling sleighs

exposure - 1/100 @ f/16, ISO 400

Best and see you in the field,

Chas, as I have said in the past, you really suck, majorily suck; with photography skills such as these you should should consider washing dishes. but really, just magnificant-how do you do it. I have looked all weekend for a mammal in the hot climate of florida and you find a mannal in the middle of the tundra-it just is not fair. It is really not fair considering I purchased your 1VHS and it should have come with your special majic of finding special mammal pictures. If you do not product photographicable mammals during the Januray 2004 Triple D shoot I will know you have some special powers over the creatures of my desire and I will never associate with you in the future. :P   :?:

see you soon in the field.

A great shot, even if he does sport some less than handsome antlers!

Excellent work and thanks for sharing it at NatureScapes. Proves that so called "bad" weather makes for excellent photo ops..

Hey Chas,

I just spent days trying to get something like this in the Smokies .. I got snow for about 2 minutes! :( .. I like the rack on this guy .. very interesting, with what looks like a split brow tine, and the odd G2. The only thing about this image that I have a hard time with is the snow in the f/g .. especially where it delineates the buck's neck and under his "chin" .. it so OOF it just looks odd to me there.

The look of the buck is great.

Cheers

Carl

Awesome Charlie. The composition and exposure is perfect and I love the snow on top of his head. The snow in the FG frames out his head nicely.

Incredible image Charles! The detail in the snow on the antlers separated from the background is awesome.
