Giraffes are not the easiest of animals to shoot, especially this close :D

I had the privilige of communing with this guy for a few minutes. He was fascinated by my hand which he constantly sniffed thru the wire of his enclosure. At one point he wrapped his tongue round my pinkie and tried to pull it back thru the fence. They have the softest touch and yet a very strong and rough tongue. Wonderful :)

I thought I'd try to capture the essence of this beautiful creature.

Comments welcome and thanks for looking.

Well done. Sometimes giraffe photos look awkward, but this captures the beauty of these giants. I like how the crop isolates the face and eye without leaving out the other parts entirely.

Cool shot! I would have thought a wide angle lens was the secret to this shot.

I like the furrow above its eye and the nice details in the face.

I don't remember exactly but it was probably around F8/11.

To watch the interaction between this beautiful Giraffe and you Dave, was very special. He certainly had eyes for no one else!!

This picture is superb and shows to perfection that wonderful, gentle eye.

Love this one!!

I really enjoy this shot, Dave. It really shows the unique character of giraffes, and I can only imagine how difficult it was to get such an ideal composition in a shot this tight of a moving animal.

Great control of DOF. This is really wonderful. Sheri and I went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park in April of 2002 and this was one of my goal images. I got nothing this nice.

Oh my! Definitely out of the box but very effective. Eyelashes and furrowed brow really keep your attention on that wonderful eye.
