Photographed at night at the floodlit waterhole just outside Okaukeujo Camp in Etosha National Park (Namibia).
Black rhinos are highly endangered in Africa, Etosha NP being one of their last strongholds. They are frequently seen at night at this waterhole.
I'm not sure about this shot...what do you think?

Bart,

I like it. I think it fits this weeks motif of being 'Out of the Box'. It is an interesting shot and I like the colors and the blur effect but wish the rhino was turned more so it would be more easily identified as a black rhino. It reminds me of a line from a Mony Python movie "Run away. Run away." Thanks for posting here in Wildlife.

I am intrigued by the warm sienna-ish colors, the suggested blurred contours and the contrast of light and dark. I really like this image; I think it is a great image.

I like the image. The color doesn't quite work for me, but rendering it in black and white would make it more striking IMO. The motion in the legs is great.

This is excellent Bart, the only thing that would make it better is a switch in direction towards you.. Thanks for posting at NatureScapes.net.

This is very well done, Bart. Looks like you had the perfect lighting for a shot like this -- nicely lit subject against a dark background -- and you executed very well with a well chosen shutter speed and good panning technique. If he were walking more parallel to your position, it might be a bit better, but this is still excellent. Nice work to think to try a pan blur here.

I think this is a very neat effect. To me, the blurring effect helps to convey the ephemerality of this animal.
