Its been a week of computer woes. Currently using my wife's computer with a noncalibrated flat screen so I'm curious to hear if the colors are whacky.

This bull was resting so quietly so I decided to try something a bit different, which just happens to fit the motif quite nicely.

EOS 3, 70-200/2.8 +1.4TC, Provia, tripod, cropped to get the eye off center.

Tim,

This shot is very cool and fits the motif to a 'T'. I like this a lot. The colors look good and you did a great job getting the zoom effect right from the eye. Excellent. I could easily see this hanging an an art gallery. Thanks for posting in Wildlife. For those who might not know how you got this image, could you please explain the technique you used. Thanks.

Thanks for the comments Cheryl.

To get this zoom effect, I placed the center focusing spot on the eye, used a fairly slow shutter speed (about 1/2 second in this case) and then smoothly moved the focal length ring on the lens to change the magnification.

I did about a dozen exposures and only got a couple that were good. Some did not have the eye centered, others did not have enough of zoom effect, a few were not sharp. Despite using a solid tripod, the tundra was too soft to get a really solid base. I also have a couple that I zoomed too quickly and they look more like a double exposure.

Spectacular! Looks like a sci-fi illustration for a mythical moose story. I like that it takes awhile to get all the details.

Tim, very, very cool! I honestly think this is the best zoom shot I've seen. The radiating antlers and the sharp eye really make it.

I am not a great fan of these zoom type shots Tim, but this is certainly one of the best I've seen on here. :)

Hey Tim,

Great job man. I've been thinking of trying some of these shots lately, we don't often see such images in wildlife galleries. You did this one very nicely. The colors really add to it, IMO. I need to get me the 70-200mm AFS-VR lens .. my zoom in that range is a variable aperture, and a complete pain in the A** to use for wildlife.

Excellent shot, buddy.

Cheers

Carl

Somehow I knew I could depend on you to come through... This is excellent and I really enjoy seeing it and then figuring it all out.. In addition, thanks for the technical information which helps everyone here to learn how you made this photo. Keep up the good work Tim!

Tim, this is truly fantastic. I find it amazing that you were able to produce this in the camera rather than in the computer, as the effect is so perfect and polished. Congrats on a really unique photo and for having the vision to create it.
