Sumatran Tiger
Captive
EOS3, 300 F4L IS, Provia100F, 550EX -2/3, handheld, full frame.

Taken at the same place as the lions. This wildlife park is the headquarters of the Sumatran Tiger Trust and does wonderful work in protecting them in the wild (we even "adopted" a wild one :) ) Current estimates suggest there are less than 350 of these beautiful animals left in the wild. And did you know that the South China Tiger became extinct in the wild last year ?

This enclosure is huge, and holds two 3 year old tigers. I waited for ages for one of them to appear in the clearing in front of the glass. Several times they both shot past at full tilt chasing each other. Finally this one came and sat down behind the tree. I took a few shots but his head wasn't visible. The flash must have caught his attention, because he looked round and straight down the lens. Then proceeded to stalk right up to me and rub his face on the glass. I just kept my finger on the trigger, unfortunately there is only one more shot of him doing this in focus, but it's a good 'un and I'll post it next.

Comments welcome and thanks for looking.
Dave

Those eyes are just incredible! I like how the vegetation frames the face.

I also enjoy the framing by the vegetation. Thanks for the background on the species as well.
