This is the same one [edit: same moose, different shot] I posted last Thursday. Shot in Jasper. Elan 7, Sigma 50-500, Tripod, Sensia 100.

I like the pose in this, even though she's looking away.

A very interesting and unique composition. The DOF is excellent for this image.

A very nice moose image IMHO. The turned away pose works here. She has a very content look on her face and her look off into the distance seems to work well with this. Ditto on ej's comment on DOF. Thanks for posting here at NSN.

Paul,

Not the usual pose, almost as if the moose is beckoning you (or someone following) on -- I like it.

Hey Paul, this was well seen and taken. You got some funky color going on in your scans?

Undoubtedly. Straight from the scanner, images have a very blue cast to them. I normally correct this by moving the midpoint slider in the blues channel in a Levels adjustment layer to about 0.75-0.9, depending on the image. (I don't have a Curves option in PS Elements.) I also boost the saturation a bit (10-25, depending on the image). My scanner doesn't tolerate high contrast images very well, so on images like this one I will also normally lighten the darks and darken the whites; I do this by selecting certain areas with the magic wand, feathering the edges, and applying a new Levels adjustment layer. Normally, I only use the RGB channel on these layers.

Normally this workflow works well to match what is on the slide.

Moose, on the other hand, tend to come out a bit redder than reality. (I presume that's what you meant--if not, let me know.) I have intentionally left this in there because I feel that it has good compromise between giving life to the image and being "correct" in colour. To my eye (on an uncalibrated monitor), the whites look reasonable.

Maybe I need to play with a few other options in colour correcting this, but I don't know what else to do to improve this. Any suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-Paul

Well done!

Excellent shot. The DOF really helps the looking away pose work even better.

Paul, I recognize this gal! I like this pose. My initial impression was that she was looking for the bull that was hanging out in the general area (but I don't think he exposed himself the day you were there).
