Canon EOS 3, 400 5.6, 1.4x Povia100@200 1/125 F-8

When I stubled across a young fawn that had been taken down, I spent a good 20 min scouring the landscape with binocs looking for the culprit. Just about to give up I , I noticed a little "lump" toward the edge of a clearing with a lot of fly's buzzing around. Moving closer I saw this guy napping, stomach distended from gorging himself coutesy of a good mother . Took a few shots but the EOS3, (even in stealth mode :0) ) was noisy enough to wake him up. I'm pretty sure I was the first human being he ever saw as he looked quite puzzeled about what to make of me. He walked off after a few minutes and I followed him right to the den and the other four pups. This guy is the "runt" of the litter. Much smaller than the other four. Seems the bigger guys like to nip him on the ears. Saw them on and off for the next three weeks until the elusive side of their personality kicked in.

That's a wonderful shot. No nits to pick at all. The look in his eye is priceless.

Really sweet expression on this face. I'd be tempted to clone out the small piece if greenery on his face. It would be east to do.

Sweet. Maybe cloning over whiskers is easy for some; it wouldn't be for me. But the foreground vegetation is so soft it doesn't bother me.

Great work! I love the sleepy, yet wary look in the eyes. I hope you were able to get back to the den for photos as the pups grew.

Hey Steve, this pup looks familiar  .
FYI-Steve spends allot of time in the field time scouting wildlife, more than most I know. This is just one of his rewards. I hope he continues to share some of his extraordinary imagery with us.

This is fantastic, nature in the raw :)

What a dream of an image, Steve !! Details are too good ... can see what I believe to be damage on its right ear.
He sure appears serene when seeing his first human.

Majorly cute. I think I would like it either tighter or without the 1.4x and then cropped. The lopped off top of the air is what is making me say that.
