(Young Male African Elephant) Lake Kariba, Zambia, Africa

I'm so happy with the series of elephant images I got at Chete Island with Lake Kariba as a background, that it I'm thinking about going back and spending more time in the unique location in Zambia. Now if I could only find some time and the world would settle down a bit. :)

The original was a bit tilted and after playing with a number of crops, I decided a 5:7 crop worked the best. Hopefully, I'll find enough time this week to post others from that trip.

Handheld from the back of a long boat using a Nikon D1, 80-400 VR, ISO 200, Program Mode, 1/320, F9.5 @ 200mm. Leveled and cropped to 5:7.

Can't wait to see more. African Elephants are my favorite mammal. If I were to hunt for a nit it would be the two slightly clipped birds in the upper left of the frame. I think this is fantastic!

When I opened this it reminded me of a wonderful picture last year of two elephants that were standing in/near water either playing or fighting with birds flying above them. Was that yours also?

This is awesome - the wet legs and trunk, the dirt flying, the hair on the chin, the action - I really like it!

Yes, that is my image and this is one of those two elephants. That's why the legs are wet. The other one, which I didn't get as good a shot of, is right behind this one.

I need to do some work on the others but the hope is to post more of these elephants.

Wow, that's fabulous! Although for a birder (or anyone else), this probably this is a huge target. The dirt in the air really conveys the feeling of motion.

Really, you cloned those birds in, right? They're just so perfect!

Superb shot Tony! Wonderful pose, composition and detail.

We have already booked to go back to Zambia in the Summer and really looking forward to it. It would be too long to wait for the world to settle down - human nature being what it is........

Crossing the street over this side of the pond is considered highly dangerous.

Awesome shot Tony. The dust makes it for me. I really like the low angle you've got here, makes the ele look even bigger.

Tony,

you know I like the series. I'm not sure if I've seen this crop, but I do love it. The action is great, esp if you know that elephants normally walk very gently. I also like the white-faced ducks in the frame. I would clone out the cut one in the upper left corner.

Cheers

Tony, this is great! I like the movement of the birds flying around the elephant and the dust flying in back of it. The determined expression is great.

Tony,
I think this is my favorite of your elephant images. The dirt flying in air, and the birds in the background put this over the top IMHO. Great shot.

Cool shot, Tony. I love the flying dirt. The ducks surrounding the elephant add a nice touch. :)

Excellent, Tony! The birds going in the same direction as the elephant really make this one great.

This is excellent, Tony. I really like the motion conveyed by the pose and the dust, the way he is well-framed by the birds, and especially the low angle of view. Great shot.

Great shot Tony. I love the action. It almost looks like he is racing the birds.
