Watched this female for over an hour but she never indicated any desire to come down. Her full belly suggests she's trying to "sleep it off." It didn't look like she ever got comfy up there. Every minute or so she would open her eyes and adjust her sleeping position, sometimes nearly falling out of the tree.

D60, 100-400 at 100, 1/200 at f5.6; flash at -2/3. This is one shot I really wish I could do over and underexpose the ambient by at least 1 to darken the background sky on a dull overcast day!

That does not look comfortable at all. Nice fully belly though and I enjoy seeing the tail hanging straight down.. Thanks for posting Rich.

Is it common for lions to be in trees? I love this shot!

What a fun shot. She really looks sacked out. I love the dangling tail. :)

Great shot! I guess its the price you pay for privacy.

And I thought my black lab could sleep anywhere.

I know Lake Manyara in Tanzania is famous for its tree climbing lions, is this where it was shot ??

Love the shot, exposure looks good and that position looks very uncomfortable :)

Unusual position this is. Nice to see a different shot of a lion again.

Cheers

Lake Manyara is famous for its tree climbing lions, but while I've been there, I've never seen them there - seeing lions there under any circumstances at Manyara is not that common - and some guides have said that even they have never seen them.

This shot was taken in the Serengeti and we virtually drove under this gal. (A nursing mother also.) After we stayed with her for over an hour, less than 2 miles from our camp, we decided that she wasn't going anywhere so we headed off and planned to stop again on the way back to camp. We hadn't traveled five minutes more before my daughter yelled "stop" and there was another female in an acacia tree. (Those familiar with acacias can guess how painful that must have been!) Our guide said that he had never seen two lions in two trees before and that he hadn't seen a dozen lions in trees in his 15 years as a guide. (When we came back by this tree, she was gone.)
