Shot in July at Elk Island National Park. Now I've seen lots of female and juvenile moose there, but this is the only identifiable male I've seen there, and he's clearly not full grown (or his antlers would be much larger by July, I'd think). I got this one from the boardwak at Astotin Lake--I was there to get the nesting Red-Necked Grebes. I was a bit suprised as I came around the corner and saw this guy lying there! From a distance, I didn't realize at first that those were mini-antlers; they're the same size as his ears. Only through 500mm of glass could I see what they really were.

Sensia 100, Sigma 50-500, tripod.

Very nice to get the moose with the spot of light on his head and the grass behind. Really makes him "stand" out. (Smallest antlers I think I've ever seen!)

Nice work Paul and congrats on finding the moose. Exposure looks right on. My eye keeps going to that white linear thing in the grass. For printing I might make that go away, otherwise another fine post..

Paul, when I saw the title, I was expecting a moose in the snowy Jasper woods, and this really caught me by surprise. The vivid green grass really is a welcome sight, and it's so much cleaner without all the clutter of the branches. Very nice light on this guy!

Nice colors to go with this 'budding' bull moose. Well done.

Good catch to find a moose relaxing in the water. I like the composition and the greens.

This is certainly a young moose. I'd guess his first summer alone. Moose calves normally spend thir first year with mom. They're chased away in the spring when the new calves are born. I saw a small bull about 6 months old recently and he had identifiable numbs for his "antlers."

Nice shot Paul. Exposure and composition are good. I really like the green backdrop. I like that you've captured a bull just as the antlers start to grow. I wonder how large they were this fall.

I really like this one -- it's very peaceful and shows the moose's habitat well.
