Savanna Baboon - Papio cynocephalus, Cape Peninsula NP, South Africa, October 2002, Eos 3 +1.4x + 400/5.6L, tripod, full frame, USM

This guy is one of the baboons with a bad reputation in the Cape Peninsula NP as he steals food from the tourists. Baboons can become extremely dangerous when they want something. This guy was sitting on a car at the moment very quietly, so I took the chance taking this very personal shot. Hopefully you like it.

Cheers

Peter

Nice composition under very difficult lighting conditions, and the blue sky is a nice change of pace for background with a baboon. Baboons are very tough to photography well, especially with full sun, since you get their eyes in deep shade. A little adjustment in curves here might bring out more detail, but in general with baboons fill flash is a virtual necessity.

The animal, the background and the comositiona re very good. Losing the eyes in the shadow unfortunately keeps it from being all that it can be.

What EJ said. I also like the texture of the fur you've captured.

Thanks Guys for your input

Of course I know I should have filled it in, but one way or the other I didn't notice while taking it. Probably the harsh light and our eyes being capable of seeing great latitude. At least I didn't loose the eyed coompletely

The blue in the back is partly sky, but the lower part is ocean! I agree it's a very nice BG with the green, blue and blue...

Nice, hairy portrait!! The eyes might be brought out in curves if you were wanting to print.
