Jasper, Alberta Canada

While scouting in Jasper, we were extremely fortunate to come across this pine martin sitting atop a rock along the river. Using the car as a blind, I slowly made my way to the back, placing a beanbag on the rear bumper. The martin stayed for only a moment, before disappearing back into the forest.

Image cropped 25%, w/ distractions removed.
Weather - a warm 5 degrees F

1D, 500mm IS, beanbag on rear car bumper
exposure - 1/125 @ f/4, ISO 200
post production - Capture One DSLR, PS 7

Best and see you in the field,

Chas

Holy smoke! One fine shot. Looks like the Jasper trip was a resounding success. Love how you got him to pose with that single sprig of grass in the corner!

A truly elusive sighting and a great photo to top it off!

The pose is great and I love the detail in the fur.

Absolutely incredible shot Chas. Better than any pine marten shot I've seen-in the wild or in captivity. The comp is wonderful and the matching color of plant in the corner adds a nice balance. The pose of the critter and the dusting of snow really help make this a killer image. Probably in the top five of my favorites of your shots.

Wonderful shot of a Marten. It almost makes me think it's posed, since that snippet of dead vegetation is absolutely perfectly positioned!

I saw one of these guys on the Icefields Parkway in the summer, but he disappeared as I was getting my camera ready...
