Photographed one early morning in Etosha National Park (Namibia), September this year.
A small pride of lions had caught an adult giraffe close to the edge of Etosha Pan.
They abandoned the kill after three days when there was almost nothing left of it.
As usual, scavengers like hyenas and jackals were close by, waiting for the scraps.
The jackal was the proud owner of the giraffe's bottom jaw, but was being robbed by the hyena.

Bart,

Very cool shot showing the interaction. I like this a lot. I have seen both jackals and hyenas in the wild, but never together and the size difference really surprised me.

Hey Bart,

nice to some more wild animals on here. It makes such a different when it's real.

Great interaction, the jackal is posed perfectly, nice light, and a very pleasing shot overall.

Cheers

Carl

Very nice behavior shot here, taken in really good light with a great background. The highlight of this image for me is seeing the size difference between the hyena and the jackal, as mentioned previously.

Super shot of species interaction. I like how you kept the bands in the background above the animals backs. Nicely done.

I'm with Cheryl, never realized how much bigger the hyenas are than jackals. Wonderful interaction, good composition and nice soft light too!

Bart this is a really great shot. Too bad that nature can be so cruel.

Very nice. The jackal's pose is just about ideal with a submissive posture. I've seen the robbery go the other way with jackals snatching scraps from almost under the nose of a hyena. Their audacity is incredible and you've captured that well.

Very kewl. I like that that you show the reality without it being over the top in gore... That early morning light is perfect.
