I like the soft light, great catchlight in the eye, too! Nice head shot.

This is really nice light. Great shot, and I like how the caribou is seen against the sky.

I like the way you have composed this image in a vertical crop. It works really well with this shot and the soft light is a bonus.

Nice one!

Nicely done. You have an unusual angle- don't see many shots looking up at caribou.

I like how the trees in the background outline the profile of the caribou.

Is this a barren ground or woodland 'bou?

Man I would have loved to have been able to get this close on my only encounter with these creatures in Alaska. I love the shot!

I lied on my back (yes back, not stomach hehe) and took the shot, I wanted to have the sky as a background to the antlers. The trees in the background were rather distracting.

I took this shot at an animal rehab center. This is why I got this close (I don't yet own a big gun Canon lens... ).

Thanks for you kind words!

Great light and a very unique perspective on this animal. Definitely the first caribou head shot I've seen looking up. I think you made the right choice to get as much of the sky as the background as possible -- I'd be interested to know what aperture you used as I suspect you could have softened those trees a bit more by using a wider one and still held detail in the subject.

Well, I actually did shoot at f5.6, @ 1/2000 sec, but I was at ISO 400 (I said earlier @ 200... oops).

Just checked the EXIF data from the photo. I would also have liked the trees in a blur... but photoshop can always take care of that.

Vadim

Trees aren't a big deal IMO. The light and the angle are big deals! Getting the antlers against the sky is very unusual and very effective.

Hi Vadim!

Is it a captive animal? I went to Ecomuseum in Montreal today one of those I saw today had exactly same antlers.

Hi Fero, you are 100% right. That's the dominant male from the Ecomuseum.

It's a great spot to shoot, and it's filled with great staff workers. Sadly, the wolves have lost one, and now there's only the male left.

Vadim
