This is the porcupine from my post in EOH, taken a few minutes before that one.

Sensia 100, Sigma 50-500, Tripod, cropped maybe 20%.

I always find porcupines' eyes to be a problem. An eye is completely visible here, with a hint of catchlight, but they're always so dark that unless it's a full face shot, it's so hard to see the eyes.

I like the snow. This was clearly a young'un, a fair bit smaller than a typical porcupine. We found it wandering down the road.

You sure this isn't a one-eyed snowball with hair? It is a bit of a struggle to find this guy's eye but once I did I was able to connect and appreciate his good looks! What a cutie. I love the golden grasses
in this and it looks like the exposure is pretty good on the snow, maybe a slight pink cast. Or do my eyes and my monitor deceive me?

This is really great, Paul, you make the porcupine look cute! I love how it's on the edge of the snow in front of the field, to me that adds a lot. The tones are great, too. Interesting how the quills blend in so well with the color of the dried vegetation.

I've never seen one of these in person. I think this is a very nice shot, Paul.

Very cool shot!
I find Pocupines, like Beavers are really difficult to get a good shot of.
This one is great, and in snow, very cool!

Well done!

It can't be much fun for them in the snow, good capture of this little spiky snowball and well composed with the snow and grass contrast.

Great shot! The exposure is right on- tough to do with so much contrast.

I like the snow amongst the quills and the grass background.

A very nice shot. Very nicely made to catch the eye of the porcupine and the detail in the snow.

I'll just echo "Great Shot"! Being covered with snow is the clincher.

I chased one of these of the deck a few nights ago - I think the dogs are finally getting smarter because I didn't have to pull any quills.

Very nice! Love the snow on this little critter. Nice to get the eye clearly visible.
