While walking the Beach I spotted this little Guy so I pulled out my ext. tubes and got some shots.

Canon 1D 500mm f4 37mm ext. tubes 2X, Tripod Ball head leveling head, Evaluative meting 1/200 @ f16, Manual focus.

This Crab is certainly not crab...

I like this shot because of the low angle and the uniform colours. I only wished the crab would pop out more. I do like the cristal clear sand in front of the crab. This is a nice example of the benifits of MF.

Cheers

Nice work, Jimmy. I like the composition; good dof for the subject matter. Nice to have a co-operative eh? It must have taken a while to get set - 2 sets of ext. tubes + the 2X.

In response to Peter's comment, I think the image would benefit from from some local contrast enhancement. Try a further application of usm with the settings at amount = 60; radius = 40; threshold = 0; and it will pop. It will also bring out theblue on the claws better.

ps - I really like your website; that image of the snowy with the sun on its face - that's really cool!

Best wishes

Nice composition and use of limited DOF even at f16. Critical focus on the eyes and to the front of the eyes really helps make this image work. Enhancing the contrast would be nice but IMO this shows the camoflage nature of the crab.

I really like this shot, Jimmy. I think my favorite part is the very interesting-looking subject, combined with good use of depth of field to emphasize it with a well-done exposure (and nice application of a bunch of accessories!). Another composition option might have been to put the subject off-center in the frame, probably lower.

Technically perfect! You even got catchlights!

I'd place the crab down and right in the frame, though, since he appears to be moving left/up.

Would a boost in saturation or contrast help bring the crab out a bit more?
