This is "Daisy" the Triple D badger photographed on the recent STL. She liked to sneer at her trainer who I think was a little intimidated by Daisy, despite their size differences...

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend everyone..

I've really enjoyed all the different shots that all of you came away with...just incredible. I have to think that a badger would be high on my list....something you don't often see. Excellent shot.....what a snarl!!! How many different animals did you get to photograph?

This is a great shot, Dennis, except as posted, it's about 1ev under, which doesn't do it justice. This is one animal that I've been really looking forward to photographing.

Best wishes.

Very nice shot Dennis. You have really captured the essence of the Badger personality.
I've always had utmost respect for Badgers. Between having highly capable Canine teeth and some very respectable claws, this is one animal I would avoid in a confrontation.

10 different species

Dennis, the ground level and in your face snarling pose makes this quite a unique badger image. It does look a bit darker than it appeared in the field.

Best,

Phil thanks for looking and your comment. The exposure on the badger is 1/3 stop below "blinking light" on the histogram. If you look under the right eye, the pixels are right to the edge of loosing detail. Daisy was very similar in color to the surrounding dirt, which of course is to her advantage but does not make for a very dramatic photograph. I selectively darkened the background around the badger to put the emphasis on the animal and less on the surroundings.. Thanks again for looking..

I think what I might have done here is to leave the white pixel values as they stand and just pull up the medium tone values a bit using curves to brighten the image a bit. I wondered, however, after I'd posted my initial comment whether you had reduced the b/g ev to create a "dusk" look to the shot.

Salt and pepper to taste, I guess.

All the best.

Great pose! In-your-face for sure. Does appear a bit dark but it's still a fine image.

Great perspective!

Doesn't look like Daisey has much potential to be a greeter a Walmart... :)

I tried your suggestion and it was very helpful and does look better. The midtones are a little low.. My screen at home is very bright and I always seem to be working on images in a dark room at night, probably not the best. Thanks for the suggestion, I think it really helps the image to lighten it a little.

Thanks to every one else for their perspective and comments also.

That's a mouth to be intimidated by. American Badgers are fearless and fearsome animlas. Nice image.
