While watching a number of wildebeest run around, seemingly aimlessly, they suddenly decided to head out for greener pastures, forming a long line and heading up hill. Canon 1Ds, 100-400 at about 300mm, f8 and incident meter, cropped to 6x12 format from full frame horizontal.

This is a really cool shot combining the environment, animals, patterns and implied movement. When Heather first told me about the name NatureScapes for this site, this is exactly the type of image that I thought about from the name.. Thanks for your post Matt, very well done indeed.

I like this a lot. It's hard to capture the essence of the migration but you've done a good job here. Bet there's amazing detail in the original. A question on the composition: if you had aimed further to the right would you have been able to get a full S curve?

Good question -- the short answer is no. There was a big blob of beests hovering just to the right of this frame, being fed by the foreground line and another from my right. There were certainly other good compositions available if I had intentionally shot for a panoramic and gone wider, but honestly didn't think of it until I saw the images later on.

Great job capturing the movement! They really stand out against the yellow grass.

This is really nice. Close enough to an S curve for me. I like this type of image of wildebeest better than closeups!

Excellent!

I was wondering the same thing about getting the full S- thanks for posting a response to the question.

This kind of stuff is going to cost us big money with Andy Gibbs next summer. Just when the checkbook is recovering for the 500 :( Wonderful shot.
