This guy was shot a couple years ago at Piedras Blancas on the Central Coast of California. It's located right next to the Pacific Coast Highway, one of the most awesome drives in the United States. The interesting thing is this colony of seals is relatively new--less than 20 years--yet it is right next to a road that passes thousands of cars daily. I must've waited for two hours for this guy to open his eye and finally gave up. These sub-adult males spend their days ashore sleeping and staying away from the big males trying to ensure dominance and their position among the other mature males. Cheers Tom Hill
