Coyote (Derived from the Aztec word Coyotl)

It was 4:30 PM (Sandy was not there so he won't be able to contest the time) on Feb.3, 2002, The outside temperature was a mere 10 degrees F, He was roaming one of the outlook places in the South Rim, I am sure looking for leftovers or handouts, lovely afternoon light on a crystal clear day, Then a Raven showed up, what followed with the Raven is a story of it's own, If I thought Ravens were smart this one went out of the box big time, a story for another day!!!
D1x, Raw format, Lens=80-400mm Af-VR f/4.5-5.6, FL=270mm, Aperture priority, center-weighted metering, 1/200sex SS-f/5.3, EV=0, ISO-200, WB=Auto, No flash attached!!!
I know I missed his rump by about an inch!!
Any and all comments welcome!!!

Gorgeous!
I agree with E.J. Snow in the shade does tend to be a bit blue, but I find it a bit overpowering here, particularly reflecting onto Wylie's coat.

Alex- A stunning shot of a gorgeous animal! I would love to see the snow be less blue but I love this as is, especially with the illuminating patches of light.

Intriguing reflected light right into the eyes of the animal---wish I could get that kind of shot! 8) He was fairly close and you got a great shot.

Love the eyes, what a penetrating stare. Very nicely made image, this is real picky but about the butt?

Juli, your comment got me thinking, indeed there is a strange reflection in his eyes, Now I recall that he was facing me across the road and I shot between some cars parked on the curb, I suspect what you see is a white/light grey car either to my left or my right!!, But I don't recall exactly !!!, Good eye on your part!!!

I can also see the blue cast on the snow and part of his back, I suspect that it was either from the blue sky or my WB meter did not work properly,The D series camera are famous for missing the WB often, but the blue is in the original image and I left it as is!!, Maybe I should had warmed up a little!!, Thanks for looking and commenting!!

What a beauty this one is......and in larger print he's awesome. Gorgeous setting and pose....so well behaved for a coyote. Perhaps you were looking like his next meal!!!

Stare and pose are great. Looks pretty well fed to me! You mention D series having a WB issue - I concur - the D30 and D60!
