During my stay in California this past summer I was told these sea-lions are often found on the local beaches. I have been to this area nine times in the past five years and this was the first time I saw a sea-lion. This beach is pretty well traveled by surfers and dog walkers and I was surprised to see no one take notice of the animal as they walked closely by. This seal was pretty beat up and, although not as pretty as she could be, something in her eyes spoke to me. I asked a few locals if this was normal and they said she was probably sick. She stayed in the same place over the next few days looking at everyone as they walked by but didn't make it through the week. :( All comments are welcome. Thanks for looking.

Touching story, well executed image, and a slice of true life. This is what real wildlife is about. We take some beautiful images, but only split seconds of the whole story. This has more story to tell than a beautiful photo, yet this image has its own beauty.

Nicely done. The expression and body posture of the seal tells a sad story, but you have presented it well.

She has such soulful, sad eyes. Her posture and thin body say a lot - and make me want to reach out to try to comfort her.

You did very well in capturing her against the whiness of the rocks. Nice image, sad story.

I'm with everyone else....and excellent tribute to her and the struggles of life. You did an excellent job with this one....and I'm sure it must have been an emotional moment to hear the outcome.
