Grizzly Bear with spring cub
Alaska
D850, 350mm, 1/1000, f/8, ISO2000

Just returned from Alaska where I had the opportunity to photograph brown bears, which was fun so soon after the white ones in Svalbard.  We were lucky to have some spring cubs show up.  Salmon were abundant in this stream and the bears were having an easy time grabbing them.

I like the way the cub is sheltering under mother, and the implied movement with the raised forepaw. Its good to hear there were plenty of salmon for them when you were there. It does look as though mother has some way to go to get her condition back as it should be - unless its just the angle and wet fur. You wouldn't think just one cub would take so much out of her.

Cute to see the little one sheltered under mom. I wonder if she feeds the cub, or is teaching it to fish.

Did the cub have any trouble in the fast moving water?

The cub didn't go in to the faster water, stayed along the sides while mom fished.
