A little dialogue re whether she has a squint or a wink.   :D  Now there's a thing... I like to think it's a wink...  Being stupid, I might have to settle for something I hadn't factored in , such as I am wondering if she adjusts each eye according to light angles and light intensity.

Slight head turn and mostly, both eyes are open.  Have to thank Carol for the question she raised as its made me look deeper into it. Happily, I have a rare opportunity to do so.

Owls have the ability to adjust each Iris.  Maybe, in Foxes, they cannot so they reduce the eye opening by closing their lids.  Either way, an interesting observation Carol.  Certainly, as I write she is in the garden and is not squinty, both eyes as expected but we are now in the shade.  ...

Techs were the Z7II and Nikkor Z 100-400 at 400.  1/1000 F5.6 at ISO 2000...

This makes fascinating reading - https://www.wildlifeonline.me.uk/animal ... fox-senses explaining that foxes have vertically slit pupils, like cats, rather than the round pupils of other canid species, and how it helps them with their sight adjustments and twilight and nocturnal hunting of small animals - and other things. So, as they say in parliament........ ' the ayes have it' ( pardon my sad humour).

Interesting observation and I noticed the independent iris adjustment when processing Snowy and Burrowing Owl images. I really like the facial expression in this one.

Wow, Carol. A wealth of information! This is a lovely shot, Dave- I like the slight head tilt. I still see a very slight squint in her left eye, but most likely it's the angle of view. Or she adjusts her eyes according to the light, however subtle? I see her left ear is slightly turned back too- she is hearing something slightly behind her too, perhaps? Fascinating stuff.

Thanks Cindy. With you on that info. Priceless. She's been a good model, albeit still a bit noisy at night...(LOL).
