This Walrus (Odebenus rosmarus) paused to smile for the camera while hauling himself down to the water. Taken 6 years ago in April, on a haul-out north of Svalbard. Taken close to midnight, we landed from zodiacs after dinner, probably hoping for better light.

That's a very toothy smile! I've got to wonder what it's like walking around with those big "teeth/tusks. Looks like an enormous fellow. Nice snowy setting.

One of the sweetest expressions I've ever seen on a walrus, Greg! Lovely angle and framing in this great portrait.

Terrific angle to get the best view of his face and tusks. A must to view large.

Smile? Well maybe. Nicely composed with a nice head turn. I like the diagonal slope in the background.
