A large Asian Water Monitor (Varanus salvator) photographed near the lodge where our family was holidaying (pre-pandemic), on the island of Lang Tengah.

Excellent portrait of this impressive lizard, Des - beautiful detail! We had several close encounters with the African (Nile Water Monitor) version when we were in the Okavango in Botswana and also along the Lower Zambezi river in Zambia. They were very good at seeming to appear from nowhere and then vanishing again.

The lizard itself is an awesome looking reptile and is enhanced by the flicking tongue and it's reflection. Terrific eye contact and detail.
