These are found only in Manas National Park - part of which is in India and the rest in Bhutan. A few scattered tribes may be seen occasionaly in the periphery of the park. This was brought to the notice of the scientific world only in 1954 although people were aware it even before that. It is classified as Endangered by IUCN
