Celebrating World Cheetah Day.
Sunrise and a lone cheetah sits atop a termite mound and tries to foresee her future.

With only 6700 cheetahs left on the planet, this graceful speedster needs all the help we can offer.
Cheetahs face extinction pressure from climate change, hunting by humans, and habitat destruction, which is reducing the size of their populations. Cheetahs' own genes also pose a challenge to their continued survival. Cheetahs have a low rate of reproductive success, meaning that as a species they are not always able to reproduce. With fewer offspring, the population can neither grow nor adapt to changes in the environment.

A really exemplary and significant shot that tells a story.
Unfortunately a sad story, common too many animal species and to our Mother Earth ...

A beautifully composed shot, which conveys poetry and almost nostalgia for a world almost lost.

Hey Marc, there is a solemn beauty to this fine photo. I like the balance you arrived with the exposure between sky and foreground/cheetah. The colors and cloud patterns in the sky are peaceful. I despair every time I hear about another species in danger...sigh...

I knew this was one of yours, as soon as I saw the thumbnail, Marc.  You have such empathy with your wildlife that I not only see them, I feel them.  :)

This is such an evocative capture, and an important message for us all.  Thank you.  It is also a stunningly beautiful image.  I love it!

A haunting scene, given what we know about the species- so beautifully portrayed to tell the sad story. I see hope, still, in this lovely poignant silhouette.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, EP and support here.

Many thanks Gary,

Yes, I could have gone with a simple silhouette but opted for a small amount of shadow detail on her.

Lovely image! Sad story. Perhaps images like this can raise awareness of the cheetah's precarious situation and help in their conservation.
