Since 2010 I have been very fortunate to have seen 4 of these melanistic Mule Deer. The area in South East Oregon is know for this genetic trait. This is a 2020 fawn, hoping to see it for years to come.

The surrounding grasses really bring out the dark color of this unusual fawn. Lovely shot. I hope you get to see it grow up.

Great find, Terry! I have seen white individuals, but never black. Beautiful image surrounded by the golden vegetation.

Really very special and unique this specimen.
I really enjoy the composition and the surrounding environment,
the thick grass creates a texture that makes the subject stand out very well, illuminating the eye to perfection.
