I recently introduced Dusky Langurs, a leaf-eating primate found mainly in western Malaysia. Females give birth to orange babies who change colour in 4 months to the adult hue. This species lives mainly in the forest canopy and moving location requires a lot of jumping....up to 50 per day. The mothers with their young move ....and jump..... with the troop. From day 1 junior must cling to the mothers belly fur. As in the image, she does not assist as all limbs are used for balance and landing.
The juvenile in this backlit image is at best two weeks old. Canon EOS1SX Mk 3, Tamron 150-600, f8 lens @428mm, ISO 6400, 1/2500, f8, handheld. These are beautiful, passive primates that are listed as 'Endangered' due to habitat loss and the illegal trade in exotic animals Cheers Graeme |
