Nikon D7500 paired with Nikon 200-500mm f5.6
Located outside of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Canada. It was just before this female polar bear approached the shore that our crew spotted the bear. Marble Island is a 16 kilometer long by 4 kilometer wide land mass located of the coast of Rankin Inlet in the Hudson Bay and as the name does not suggest, the island is actually quartzite. The island is a popular check point for migrating Beluga Whales and Polar Bears. The closest point of land from this island is a little over 16 KM, but from the polar bear's typical migratory route it might have swam 20 KM. This was taken in October of 2019 and at the very end of our summer/fall season this bear showed no signs of starvation. Seeing a bear in this condition is the norm in the north. |
