Located outside of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Canada. It was just before this female polar bear approached the shore that our crew spotted the bear. Marble Island is a 16 kilometer long by 4 kilometer wide land mass located of the coast of Rankin Inlet in the Hudson Bay and as the name does not suggest, the island is actually quartzite. The island is a popular check point for migrating Beluga Whales and Polar Bears. The closest point of land from this island is a little over 16 KM, but from the polar bear's typical migratory route it might have swam 20 KM. This was taken in October of 2019 and at the very end of our summer/fall season this bear showed no signs of starvation. Seeing a bear in this condition is the norm in the north.

Good detail, nice pose and look back, and the raised forepaw gives a nice feel of implied movement. A lovely sighting of this handsome bear, David!

Excellent shot- love the raised paw and dripping paw. I appreciate your story as well. So nice to see a healthy bear.

Super shot. Good information too David. Great news to hear it's the norm to see them in that condition, as we here so much troubling info.
