Lately I have been going through some old images and playing with B&W conversions.  This image was made in 2010 in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania with a 1D4 and 100-400.  Processed in color using all the modern techniques then converted to B&W in PS working with channels and curves.  Please click for uncompressed view. Thanks for looking.

A bit more room all round would be better with such a large subject IMO, but the detail in the mud caked hide is amazing, Ed. The black and white conversion gives this mature giant an almost prehistoric appearance. A good choice for conversion and a very dramatic result!

A bit tight ED to do this big old tusker justice, however to get to see one of these elderly statesman is a real treat and rare these days, so very well done. Just be careful Ed in the conversion that the contrast of the overall look leaves little separation.

The conversion emphasizes, I think, the sense of age and size. What amazing tusks! Rather poignant.
